The ETSU women’s golf team started Southern Conference Championship play in Hilton Head, S.C., from April 16 to 18. The Lady Bucs finished in fourth place overall, snagging some individual standouts to help lead the team in the tournament.
On the first day of the conference championship, sophomore Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) led the team with a 1-over-par 73. She totaled four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys over the first 18 holes.
Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England) is in the top 10 as she shot a 3-over-par 75, putting her in ninth place. She was even-par with three holes left but went bogey-par-double to finish the round. She also had three birdies on the first day at Moss Creek South Golf Club, which tied with the second most in the field.
Amber Thornton (Canberra, Australia) tied 22nd at 7-over 79, and Crafton was tied for 28th, shooting an 8-over 80.
On the second day, the team dropped to fourth place, shooting an overall score of 38-over-par 614. Meanwhile, Muse and Bert tied for sixth at 8-over-par 152. Thorton carried the team, shooting a 4-over 76 and tied for 13th place. Furman was leading the tournament with a 14-over-par 590.
On the final day of play, Muse continued her excellent play on the greens finishing fifth overall. She totaled a 54-hole score of 11-over-par 227 (75-77-75). This is her second straight top-five finish at the conference championship. Bert tied for 18th at 19-over-par 235, while Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) tied for 24th at 21-over-par 237.
The Bucs finished fourth at 70-over-par 934 to wrap up play in Hilton Head. Furman was able to hit 30-over-par 894 to win the tournament.
The Bucs will continue to play on May 8 to start the NCAA regional tournament.
