The ETSU men’s soccer team played Wofford to a goalless 0-0 draw in their Southern Conference opener on Sept. 30. This match was notable because it marked the first-ever goalless draw in the 18 meetings between the Bucs and the Terriers. Historically, this matchup is known for a lot of action in the net.

Despite the absence of goals, there were several opportunities for both teams.  Nico Kross (Heidenheim, Germany) had a header that went over the crossbar in the 20th minute and hit the crossbar again in the 27th minute. ETSU managed to keep Wofford from taking a shot until the final two minutes of the first half, when Wofford player Nikolai Rojel had an attempt that went high and wide.

The Bucs had more chances in the second half, but they could not find the breakthrough. Kross had another chance in the 48th minute, but Kieran Richards (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Gabriel Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) missed the opportunities.

As the game progressed past the one-hour mark, Axel Boden (Ostersund, Sweden) had an opportunity that Wofford’s goalkeeper Victor Cameron saved, and Tarik Pannholzer (Flensburg, Germany) forced a save out of Cameron in the 75th minute. ETSU outshot Wofford 11-4 and had four shots on goal, but Wofford did not test ETSU goalkeeper Cole Hunter (Mt.Juliet, Tenn.), who collected his second shutout of the year.

The Bucs will host  preseason favorite UNCG on Friday night at Summer-Taylors stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Admission to the game is free.
