This October, the official ETSU Michael Myers guy is back to lift the Halloween spirit around campus. Though mostly concentrated on appearing at ETSU events, one might see him during the next few months as he plans to be visible only until spring arrives.

A Fine Arts major, Myers is taking this time to not only offer entertainment to the ETSU public but also to indulge in his hobbies as well.

“It’s not only cathartic for me to be doing this,” Myers said, “But I hope it’s also a little bit cathartic for the people out there as well.”

An artist at heart, Myers has worked hard to pursue realism in his costume. Although the same jumpsuit from last year, it now has been heavily worn down with sandpaper and fabric medium. There are also oil stains that can be seen on the sides as if someone had just wiped their hands to clean them off, knowing that the fictional character from the franchise steals the suit from a mechanic.

A new item Myers has brought out this year is his mask. The 1978 Captain Kirk mask was molded after actor William Shatner and was painted white as used in the film. Myers repainted it with acrylic and liquid latex and added details such as patches of paint stripping off from where the actor would consecutively remove the mask while on set. Lastly, he removed the hair off the original mask and mixed It in with the new one, removing patches of glue that were visible and bringing the costume together.

Myers has been thinking of what will happen to the character when he graduates. He mentioned he has been thinking of handing down the costume for someone else to continue the tradition and that some have reached out to him wanting to do so.

“If somebody does it responsibly and works with public safety, that would be great,” Myers said.

Looking to expand, Myers has been reaching out to events outside of campus and hoping to partake in community events around Johnson City. He recently made an appearance at Capone’s where he won the establishment’s costume contest. Keep an eye out, Bucs, and feel welcome to note Michael Myers appearances with a selfie upon asking.
