ETSU’s volleyball team faced a tough four-set loss to Mercer in their recent match at Brooks Gym. Despite the defeat, several players stood out for their notable performances.

Senior Jenna Forster (Maryville, Tenn.) led the team with 17 kills, delivering a strong performance in what could potentially be her last match at Brooks Gym. Junior Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) also made a significant impact with 12 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .323. Małgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) displayed an all-around effort with 24 assists, 15 digs, and four aces, while Junior Abbey Thomas (Goldsboro, N.C.) contributed six kills and seven block assists.

The match was characterized by intense back-and-forth play, with both teams showing strong offensive performances. In the first set, despite ETSU’s efforts, Mercer secured a 25-21 win.

The second set saw ETSU’s offense find its rhythm, leading to a 26-24 victory for ETSU. Mercer’s balanced offense proved effective in the third set, resulting in a close 25-23 win for the Bears.

The fourth set was similarly competitive, with the score tied at various points. However, Mercer secured a 27-25 victory to clinch the match. 

With this result, ETSU’s overall record stands at 5-20, with a 5-9 record in Southern Conference (SoCon) play. The team will have a chance to bounce in their upcoming match against The Citadel.
