ETSU’s Student Wellness is hosting ‘Be Kind to Your Body Week’ in honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness Month in February.
The event will take place from Feb. 12-16 and will offer students the chance to learn more about body positivity and grab snacks and recipes. Each day will offer a different activity around campus for students to get involved.
Shaina Reins, coordinator of Fitness & Wellness said, “This is the perfect opportunity to relax, indulge and show yourself some much-deserved love and appreciation this week.”
ETSU’s Student Wellness is dedicated to helping students care for themselves and their bodies. This event will bring a light to eating disorders and ways to reach help.
“This is a great way to provide resources on campus for those struggling with eating or body image concerns, and encourage everyone to practice self-compassion and show their bodies and minds some kindness,” Halie Darby, assistant director of Student Wellness, said.
Students will be provided with information on how to help friends struggling or find help for themselves. Child Mind Institute claims that eating disorders in college students can be very serious and even life-threatening. The best way to combat eating disorders is to reach out for help.
Students who are struggling or know someone who is struggling are encouraged to drop in and learn more and receive more resources. To find out about activities and events this week students can visit ETSU’s active calendar website. Staff will be available to answer questions and talk to students.
Anyone who has eating concerns or is struggling with an eating disorder should contact the ETSU Counseling Center at 423-439-1000 or email counselingcenter@etsu.edu to receive help and additional guidance.
