ETSU’s second Construction Summit will take place on Friday, Feb. 27 and is free for students. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. and go on until 4 p.m. with a break for lunch. Students are welcome to attend the entire event or join for specific topics that interest them.

The Summit will feature industry leaders, professionals and innovators, including several members of ETSU’s faculty, who will be talking about several topics relevant to the current challenges and opportunities within the construction industry.

Some of the topics will be more specifically related to construction, while others will be focused on various aspects of the business side of the industry.

The session topics will include: “Construction Market Conditions at Macro and Micro Levels,” “Making a Construction Business Profitable,” “Ongoing Challenges in the Construction Workforce,” “Selling a Business,” “Utilizing AI in the Construction Industry” and “Construction Market Outlook: Strategies and Planning in Uncertain Times.”

Students will have the opportunity to network with construction industry professionals in addition to learning from the presentations.

“I expect students to be able to, number one, network with some of the industry reps that are there, right? Many of our students can have conversations with these folks informally, which could lead to potential internship, co-op opportunities, and in some cases, after graduation, full-time employment,” said Keith Johnson, vice president for student success.

“The Summit would also allow students to become familiar with the current issues associated with construction. I know when they’re taking classes, we have some outcomes that we want to try to achieve and we do talk about some ongoing challenges associated with construction, but I think when students are able to meet with some of the folks who are on the ground in the construction industry, they get a different perspective of what the field really is about,” said Johnson.
