The East Tennessee State University men’s tennis team fell short in their matchup against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 13., ETSU would go on to lose the contest 4-1.

This match was the first meeting between these two teams since 2008. Prior to the matchup the Buccaneers were 4-0 against Gardner Webb, averaging 5.2 points a match.

In the game versus the Runnin’ Bulldogs, the top three single scores went as followed: 1. Eduardo Dias (GWU) def. Dimitri Badra (ETSU) 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 2. Alex Lepine (GWU) def. Milledge Cossu (ETSU) 6-3, 6-1, and 3. Pedro Cressoni (ETSU) vs. Numa Lemieux-Monette (GWU) 2-6, 6-3, 3-1, unfinished.

The top three doubles matches went as followed: 1. Chrisjan Van Wyk/Eduardo Dias (GWU) def. Milledge Cossu/Adam Nagoudi (ETSU) 6-3, 2. Numa Lemieux-Monette/Jurie Terblanche (GWU) def. Dimitri Badra/Francisco Lamas (ETSU) 7-5, and 3. Pedro Cressoni/Alberto Garcia (ETSU) def. John Spring/Kim Niethammer (GWU) 6-2.

This was a solid match overall from both teams, but the Runnin’ Bulldogs just managed to pull out the victory. Gardner-Webb has looked solid all season long, they are undefeated so far and sit at 7-0 with the victory over ETSU.

East Tennessee State University is now on a two game losing streak, and hopes to get back on track soon. The Buccaneers now sit at 3-5 after this loss to the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

ETSU prepares for their next game, as they will go on the road to face UNC Wilmington who currently sits at 2-3 on the season.

The Buccaneers hope to come out of Wilmington with victory to get their season back on track.
