This weekend, the ETSU baseball team travelled to Birmingham where they played a three game conference series with the Samford Bulldogs.

In two of the first games of the series, the Bucs dropped both of them to their opponent, 6-9, with the Samford bats proving to be to much for the Bucs pitching staff.

Friday’s matchup saw the Buccaneer pitching staff give up three long balls to the Bulldogs offense, all coming before the conclusion of the fourth inning. Buccaneer starting pitcher Carter Fink (Macon, Ga.) lasted 3.2 innings for ETSU, giving up three home runs and allowing three runs on the day. He walked away on the day taking the no decision.

Even though the Bucs lost, they out-hit the Bulldogs picking up twelve versus their opponents mere ten hits. Cameron Sisneros (Littleton, Colo.) had the Bucs lone long-ball in Friday’s contest, hitting a solo shot over the right field wall.

While the game was back-and-forth for the majority of the game, the Bulldogs finally pulled away with the game in the fifth and sixth innings, plating three in both frames.

Game two was all déjà vu for the Bucs, with the same results coming from their previous matchup on Friday. The Bucs and Bulldogs exchanged the lead regularly until Samford pulled away with it in the sixth inning, putting up a four spot off of a pair of extra base hits.

During Saturday’s matchup, the Buccaneers boasted six extra base hits with senior Noah Gent (Corryton, Tenn.) picking up three of them. In Saturday’s matchup, Gent went deep twice and collected a double for himself on the day as well. His efforts on Saturday earned him four runs batted in.

With the two losses to the Bulldogs this weekend, the Bucs find themselves in fifth place in the Southern Conference. With one game left on Sunday, ETSU looks to give Samford their first loss in conference play this season.
