ETSU’s esports program placed high in its conference finals and national playoffs, ending the fall season with a 45-20 record and big accomplishments.
Esports is competitive gaming played online or in-person. ETSU’s esports program competes against different universities in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, VALORANT, iRacing and Overwatch 2.
“This should be our 16th conference championship in the program. We’ve made five top-16 national appearances at NACE competitions,” said Jeffery Shell, esports head coach.
ETSU’s Blue Rocket League team finished first in the National Association of Collegiate Esports in the regular season and first place in the Collegiate Championship Series.
The Gold Rocket League team placed second in the CCS and top 16 in the playoffs as well. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate placed top 32 in the NACE playoffs, along with second in the regular season.
The Gold Rocket League team participated in the Southeast Esports League. “This is composed of schools ranging from Virginia to Texas, and we finished second in our conference and then made it to playoffs,” said Shell.
The spring season started on Feb. 3 when both Blue and Gold rosters competed in Rocket League games. Shell said he has been working hard with the team in preparation for the spring season. The team has another season ahead of them but is eager to win by maintaining strong teamwork.
