The Student Government Association (SGA) election for the 2025-26 school year has been finalized by the SGA Election Commission. Shelby Koerten will serve as president, Taylor Laymon as executive vice president and Macy Miller as vice president for finance and administration.

Candidates began their campaigns the week of Monday, March 24, and campaigned tirelessly until voting began this past Thursday, April 3. Voting concluded on Friday, April 4, and the election results were announced in an email to the student body shortly after.

“To the student body, thank you for placing your faith in me. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to watch this vision become a reality,” Koerten wrote on her Instagram after the results were announced.

The races for the top three positions were close. Koerten secured the presidency with 947 votes, followed by Macy Strader with 818 votes and Jared Huff with 514.

Taylor Laymon won the executive vice president position with 1,175 votes, while Reagan Faison secured 1,175 votes.

Macy Miller and Macie Lawrence campaigned for the role of vice president for finance and administration, with Miller securing the position and 1,514 votes. Lawrence received 770 votes.

This SGA administration is notably the first all-women administration in recent years.

Students were also able to vote for senator positions within the colleges. The College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business and Technology receive eight seats, and the College of Education receives five seats. The College of Nursing, the College of Public Health, the College of Health Sciences and senators representing undeclared students all receive two seats.

There were also four pieces of legislation voted on during the election, including the establishment of a State of the Student Body address to be given by the SGA president each spring. All four acts were approved.

“ETSU is more than just a university—it is a home, and our administration will work tirelessly to ensure this rings true for every student,” wrote Koerten.

SGA serves as the official communication between students and faculty, staff and university administration. SGA is also in charge of the BUC Fund and organizes major campus events.
