On April 15, it was announced that NLE Choppa would no longer perform at the Student Government Association (SGA) Spring Concert. In his place, Quavo will perform. The concert will also feature guests Kaliii and Josh Levi.

The event is scheduled for April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Freedom Hall Civic Center. Students can claim one free ticket and purchase up to two guest tickets for $10 each. Staff and faculty may purchase up to four tickets for $10 each.

Director of Student Activities and Organizations Carter Warden shared the details of the change.

On the afternoon of April 11, Warden received a message from NLE Choppa’s agent. It stated, “NLE Choppa is experiencing some health concerns and has therefore decided it is in the best interest of his health to cancel the rest of his college dates. Please know, he and his team do not make this decision lightly.”

After receiving the message, Warden immediately began working to find a new headliner. The process began by reviewing the list of artists that students had voted on.

“Quavo was on that list, and he had received hundreds of votes from students, so I knew he would be popular,” said Warden. “After the weekend of searching for possible replacement headliners, I made an offer to Quavo on Monday morning, and his management accepted the offer within hours.”

Following the announcement of Quavo’s performance, students expressed mixed emotions, but the overall the reaction was positive.

“I think there were some disappointed students, but many were happy to hear that Quavo was the new headliner,” said Warden. “We actually sold more tickets after the new headliner was announced.”

The SGA Spring Concert is being organized by SGA executive officers, Concert Chair Macy Strader, Warden and Dean of Students Michelle Byrd.

“While we hope that NLE has a quick recovery, we are excited to welcome Quavo to the stage. While we’ve never seen a cancellation like this, Quavo was the next highest voted on our poll and we moved quickly to secure him,” said Strader. “It’s going to be an awesome concert!”
