Put on your dancing shoes, ETSU! Our favorite dance competition, “Dancing with the Stars,” returned on Sept. 16 for its 34th season, celebrating 20 years of celebrities trading the spotlight for the ballroom.

Airing Tuesday nights on ABC and Disney+, and streaming the next day on Hulu, the show continues to mix familiar glamour with fresh twists. This year’s cast brings a wide variety of personalities to the floor.

Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, “Boy Meets World” actress Danielle Fishel, conservationist Robert Irwin, Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui, comedian Andy Richter, and social media names like Alix Earle and Dylan Efron headline the celebrity lineup. Fourteen stars in total were paired with both veteran pros and new talent, including Jan Ravnik, who recently performed on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Longtime judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli returned, while Carrie Ann Inaba missed the premiere due to illness. The hosts remain Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, keeping continuity for longtime fans. In an unusual twist, the premiere featured no elimination, with scores carrying into the following week. Producers confirmed a double elimination ahead, raising the stakes early in the competition.

The opening night set the tone for a lively season. Robert Irwin won fans over with an adventurous entrance, leaping off a car with his partner in a daring routine. Danielle Fishel also made headlines after posting photos of bruises from rehearsals, assuring fans she’s pushing through the physical demands. Behind the scenes, some pros have voiced frustration over partner assignments, but on stage, the focus remains on entertainment and performance.

Season 34 also leans into celebration with themed nights including TikTok Night, Disney Night, Halloween, and even a “Wicked” themed show, promising creative choreography and viral moments. ETSU, be prepared to put back on the dancing shoes as the season continues throughout the semester. Maybe even your favorite will win the Mirrorball trophy!
