The ETSU women’s volleyball team had two back-to-back games coming off a win against their biggest rival, Chattanooga. They traveled to Cullowhee, North Carolina on Oct. 3 for a match against Western Carolina. On Oct. 4 they traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for a match against Samford. The women’s volleyball team went into this game on a hot streak with five wins in a row, and eight wins overall for the season.

In the game against Western Carolina, both teams were equal in power and determination. Even though ETSU took an early lead in the first set, Western Carolina quickly caught up. After a tough fight, the Buccaneers won the first set with a final score of 25-22. The second set went similarly to the first. ETSU once again came out on top with a final score of 25-21. With only one more set needed to secure the match, ETSU fought harder than ever before. However, Western Carolina ended up pulling ahead with a final score of 20-25. The fourth and final set was once again a game of tug-of-war between two teams, but the Buccaneers came out on top with a final score of 25-18, winning the match 3-1. This game made it a win streak of six for ETSU, and undefeated in terms of SoCon games.

In the game against Samford, ETSU knew they needed to be on their A-game against their fourth SoCon opponent of the season. With the Buccaneers unable to take the lead through the whole set, Samford won the set 19-25. After regaining their fighting spirit, the Buccaneers won the second set with a score of 25-23. This determination lasted through the third set, with ETSU once again winning with a score of 25-23. With one more set to win the match, the Buccaneers kept up the pace and won their final set with a score of 25-20, with the match closing with a final score of 3-1.

The ETSU women’s volleyball team now has an overall record of 10-5, with a current win streak of seven games. They have played four matches against fellow SoCon opponents this season and won all of them. The Buccaneers will play against two more SoCon teams this weekend, with the game against The Citadel on Oct. 9 and Furman on Oct. 10. Both of these games will take place at Brooks Gym in Johnson City, Tenn., and will begin at 6 p.m.
