Fall recruitment begins this week for ETSU sororities. The six-day rush process gives ETSU students a chance to dive deeper into the “philanthropies, sisterhoods and traditions” of each sorority chapter and explore Greek life on campus.
ETSU has five sororities: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Delta and Sigma Kappa. Each chapter is unique and provides opportunities to meet like-minded people, serve in the community, gain leadership skills and more.
Breanna Thompson, this year’s lead recruitment guide, said their recruitment process differs from larger schools.
“Our recruitment is not like Alabama, UTK or another big SEC school; we are way smaller than those schools, and therefore, our Panhellenic as a whole is smaller, but more intimate,” Thompson said.
Each day of the recruitment process, which takes place in the D.P. Culp Student Center, has a different purpose. Beginning this year, the Philanthropy/Open House Round portion will take place on the first two days, followed by the Sisterhood round where conversations go deeper. On the fourth day, Preference Rounds, potential new members (PNM) get a much better sense of which sorority they best fit into.
The final day is the heavily anticipated bid day, where PNMs learn which sorority has made them an offer to join. Bid day is celebrated with a big ceremony, held outside the Culp, where new members run to their new sorority.
Thompson’s advice for anyone considering recruitment is to “be yourself,” she said, since that is the best way for a potential member to figure out which chapter is the right fit.
