ETSU students showcased their singing talents and school spirit during the Homecoming Idol Karaoke competition Oct. 26 in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium at the D.P. Culp Student Center.

The event brought together student organizations for an evening of musical performances and friendly competition as part of ETSU’s 2026 Homecoming celebrations.

Participants competed individually, in pairs or alongside other student organizations. Faculty members and alumni judged the performances based on stage presence, vocals and costumes.

Freshman Margaret Murray attended the event to support a fellow member of her sorority.

“I came to this event to support my Alpha Omicron Pi sister and to watch everyone else perform,” Murray said.

Most contestants represented fraternities and sororities, while one participant represented the pre-health living-learning community.

Alpha Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Alpha performed Kenny Chesney’s “American Kids,” wearing American flag and bald eagle costumes.

Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Sigma performed “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from the film “Dirty Dancing,” recreating the movie’s well-known overhead lift.

Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Omicron Pi performed Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” using the song to portray the separation of the American colonies from Great Britain in 1776.

Kappa Delta and Sigma Chi performed Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” with shirtless performers displaying the letters “USA” across their chests.

Beta Upsilon Chi and Sigma Kappa performed The Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier,” while a representative from the pre-health living-learning community sang John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The pre-health living-learning community’s performance of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” earned first place in the competition.

Kappa Delta and Sigma Chi took second place with “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” while Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Sigma finished third with “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”

The karaoke competition was one of several events scheduled throughout ETSU’s Homecoming week.

Other activities include Skit Night, Big American Classic Volleyball, a comedy event and yard show, a gospel choir brunch concert and the Homecoming football game against Tennessee Tech.
