, a recent ETSU alumnus, can stay local while working at Senswork Inc., a German-based company that automates quality control, thanks to ETSU’s Innovation Lab.

Cornett said his time at ETSU has been instrumental to his new career, “where every application presents different challenges to overcome.”

During his time at the university, he gained valuable industry skills and learned how to “approach and tackle problems from a technical and practical perspective.”

Cornett did not enter college with a defined plan for his future career. That allowed him to explore his interest in “how things work and figuring out how to make things better and more efficient,” leading him to manufacturing engineering technology with an automation specialty.

Cornett encourages current ETSU students not to stress about changing their major to pursue something that interests them and to connect with classmates who are in the same boat.

The most valuable skill Cornett has learned is time management. He said, “creating a schedule that works best for your individual needs helps ensure you stay on top of everything and not get overwhelmed.”

Cornett now works in the ETSU Innovation Lab in Johnson City, which fosters the growth of high-tech companies in their early years or as they expand into the U.S. market. Since starting at Senswork, an international company, Cornett has already had incredible opportunities, such as attending the Austrian Grand Prix Formula 1 race while training in Germany.
