East Tennessee State University’s Department of Music will kick off its 2026-27 performance season with a concert featuring the Sinfonia and Symphony orchestras on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the James C. and Mary B. Martin Center for the Arts.

Under the direction of David Kováč, the orchestras will present a program featuring works by composers Gustav Holst, Leroy Anderson, Aaron Copland and César Franck.

The concert will include Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday,” featuring trumpet soloists Avery Polk, Logan Barry and Jonathon Hansard.

The first half of the performance will conclude with Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo,” featuring “Buckaroo Holiday,” “Corral Nocturne,” “Saturday Night Waltz” and “Hoe-Down.”

Following intermission, the orchestra will perform Franck’s “Symphony in D Minor” to conclude the evening.

The concert marks the beginning of the university’s orchestral performance season, with additional Department of Music events scheduled throughout the academic year.

According to the Martin Center’s event calendar, upcoming performances include a chamber music concert celebrating Appalachian heritage on Oct. 30. The department’s calendar also lists a February event celebrating Beethoven.

Community members, students and supporters are invited to attend the concert.
