On March 24, Music Bingo brought students to their feet as DJ Robbie Britton played music ranging from Elton John to Bruno Mars.

Buctainment’s ongoing Bingo series continued with its second in-person meeting of the semester. Prior to that, Britton was hosting the Bingo nights via Zoom. Through a program called DJ Bingo, participants can either scan a QR code or enter a code projected on the Cave’s screen to access their Bingo card. Paper copies were also available.

“It’s a fun game,” said Britton. “What’s fun about music bingo is it’s something for everybody. It’s a good time. The facility is amazing; the huge screen, the awesome sound. It’s just a fun thing to do.”

There were four rounds, each round pertaining to different music categories: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Dueling Pianos, The Good, Bad and Ugly and Decades of Dance. Each round required a different type of Bingo, with the first being a straight-across Bingo while the last had to cover the whole board.

Around 15 seconds of a song would play, giving students time to hear the song and find it on their bingo card. The winner of each round received a drawstring bag with goodies from Buctainment. During the last round, Britton let the songs play out longer so people could dance and sing along if they wanted. Buctainment staff programmer Morgan Colley enthusiastically danced along throughout the night, especially enjoying the “Cha-Cha Slide” by DJ Casper.

“I always enjoy stuff like this,” Colley said. “Even though I’m a little shy at times, I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m going to have fun. I think that’s what students need to see is that other people are having fun so they can feel like they can have fun as well.”

The event maintained COVID-19 regulations, requiring participants to wear masks and each table was spread apart. Both Colley and Britton remarked that it felt good to finally be able to hold the event on campus again. The next Music Bingo night will be April 7 at 7 p.m. in the Cave. Attendance will be limited to 40 people on a first come, first serve basis, with no registration required. If you have any questions, contact Buctainment at etsufun@etsu.edu.

“It’s good that we’re doing events for students in person,” said Colley. “I think people enjoyed it, just to have something to do outside of classes. That’s why we want to do this stuff.”
