On Oct. 15, Buctainment hosted a movie night, welcoming students to watch “White Chicks.” There have been multiple different movies in the past they have shown for the students, but this week a comedy was chosen.

Normally a few weeks prior to the movie night, Buctainment sends out a poll for all students to be able to fill out and pick which movie they prefer.

The movie, released in 2004, featured Shawn and Marlon Wayans as an FBI duo who go undercover to follow up on a kidnapping plot lead. The film itself is described by Entertainment Weekly as a “cult classic”, drawing a crowd of attendance to the showing on campus.

Movie nights are typically hosted in The Cave, but this Friday was different. Audra Larson, Buctainment staff programmer, mentioned it was hosted in the Culp Auditorium for unrelated reasons.

“The auditorium is very movie theater-like so it makes the movie experience better for the students.”

Despite the location shifted, she mentioned the crowd and overall positive reaction from students in attendance of the event.

Larson stated, “I think there was a pretty good turnout, the students seemed to really enjoy the movie.” There were around 20 students in the auditorium watching “White Chicks,” and everyone appeared to be having a good time with each other.

There are several movie showings left this semester.

“We have one this Friday, Oct. 22: ‘Rocket Man’ will be playing and we will be collaborating with the Pride Center for this event,” expressed Larson. “On Oct. 26, we are showing “A Quiet Place 2” in the Quad, following our first annual Fall Fest. Students will be able to sign up using the link in our Instagram bio or from the campus life calendar.”

Students make sure to be on the lookout for upcoming events, Buctainment will continue to announce their event a few weeks prior and you won’t want to miss out. Larson would like to add, “Movie night is a great event and we are so happy to put this on for ETSU students, also it’s a great way to relax after a long week!”
