ETSU Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Adventure is holding a “Shadow of the Mountain” climbing competition.

Sarah Williams, graduate assistant for Outdoor Adventure, explained what the climbing competition will bring to campus and what categories will be available.

“There will be three categories,” Williams said, “beginner, intermediate, and advanced, so everyone has a chance to showcase their abilities for a chance to win prizes.”

For non-competitors, watching the climbers is welcome.

“Even those who don’t want to compete are welcome to stop by to hang out and watch the climbers,” said Williams.

The competition is open to the entirety of the campus community.

“All ETSU student and faculty are encouraged to participate,” Williams said.

Williams also listed sponsors who made the event possible.

“The event is sponsored by Mahoney’s, Boomtown, Escape Climbing, College Outside, Nicros, Misty Mountain and REI,” said Williams.

The “Shadow of the Mountain” climbing competition is in its second year, and there may be more competitions in the future.

According to the ETSU Campus Recreation Instagram, the competition will be held on Nov. 17 at the Center for Physical Activity’s climbing wall located within the Center for Physical Activity.

Check-in time is from 4:15-4:45 p.m. Climbing starts at 5 p.m. The duration of the competition, including check-in, will be 4:15-9:00 p.m.

The cost to register is $20 for each participant. Participants will receive a free t-shirt by entering the competition, and prizes will be presented by the sponsors.
