With Valentine’s Day coming up, there’s no better time to refresh your memory on some romantic comedy classics. Whether you’re watching with a special someone, a group of friends or on your own, here’s a list of some of the best rom-coms that never go out of style.

“Mamma Mia” (2008)

For musical movie fanatics, “Mamma Mia” tells the story of a young bride who invites three men from her mother’s past to her wedding in the hopes that one of them is her father. ABBA’s discography serves as the soundtrack to this jukebox musical with a star-studded cast that is full of both hilarious and heartwarming moments.

“Never Been Kissed” (1999)

Drew Barrymore stars as a young reporter who must go undercover as a high school student and come up with a juicy report in order to keep her job, but her mission is complicated when she develops feelings for one of the teachers. Not only does this plot offer plenty of room for hilarious moments, it also serves as a perfect time capsule for 90s culture and the trials and tribulations of high school.

“Set It Up” (2018)

While most modern rom-coms struggle to find the right formula, this recent Netflix original represents everything audiences love about rom-coms, with an especially amusing cast. The plot follows two assistants as they attempt to set up their horrible bosses with one another in order to make their own work lives easier. But, their scheming becomes strenuous when they both develop feelings for each other.

“When Harry Met Sally…” (1989)

This Nora Ephron classic might be one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. Set in the timeless and iconic city of New York, an unlikely friendship is formed between Harry and Sally when they meet right after their college graduation. The film follows their odd friendship throughout the years, culminating on one very important night on New Year’s Eve.

“10 Things I Hate About You” (1999)

Based on Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew”, this movie tells the story of Kat and Bianca Stratford, two sisters who have an overprotective father. He creates a rule that Bianca can only date if her elder sister does. Bianca then sets out to find a brave and daring soul who would be up to the challenge of stealing Kat’s heart, so that she herself can go to the school’s prom. This movie is my favorite on the list and an absolute watch for anyone, even if you are not a fan of the romantic comedy genre.
