Johnson City, TENN– On Friday, Feb. 6, the ETSU women’s tennis team put together a commanding performance at the ETSU Mini Dome, earning a 7-0 shutout win over Murray State. The victory improved the Buccaneers’ record to 3-2 on the season and showcased strong play across both doubles and singles competition.
From the opening doubles matches, ETSU set the tone. The Buccaneers captured the doubles point with convincing wins at key positions, highlighted by a 6-1 effort from the duo of Alessandra Caceres and Mariangel Estrella. ETSU’s teamwork at the net and aggressive shot selection helped swing momentum in their favor early.
Once singles began, ETSU continued to control the pace of the match. At the top of the lineup Ksenija Rage posted a hard-fought straight-set win, leading her opponent in a tight first set before closing it out in the second. Alessandra Caceres followed with a strong 6-2 victory that clinched the overall match for the Buccaneers. The rest of the Bucs lineup saw similar success with several matches ending in straight sets or early retirements from Murray State.
The effort marked ETSU’s third shutout win of the season, an impressive milestone considering the Bucs recorded just four shutouts in 23 matches last year. ETSU’s depth and consistency throughout the lineup were on full display, as both upper-line and middle-order players contributed important wins.
With a strong overall team effort and clean sweep of Murray State, the Buccaneers continue to solidify their presence this spring and give fans plenty to be excited about.
The Bucs next match will be against Lipscomb University at home in the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb 14 at 11 a.m. For more information visit etsubucs.com/sports/womens-tennis.
