Finals week is soon! Oops. Did I scare you? Like it or not, Bucs, the time has come once again; the end of the semester is upon us. With the last day of classes being April 30, there is no time like the present to start preparing for your final exams.
No matter how far along you are in your time at ETSU, whether you are a new freshman or seasoned senior, chances are you are nervous and stressed over at least one class. If you’re nervous about the end of the semester, there are a variety of ways you can reduce the anxiety you may be feeling about your classes and exams.
First, take breaks during study sessions. Studying nonstop for 12 hours isn’t productive. What is productive, however, is studying for shorter periods of time with breaks in between. Plus, taking breaks reduces cortisol levels, which in turn makes you less stressed. Consider taking some time to hang out with friends, go on a walk, whatever makes you happy.
Another important thing to consider is time management. Make sure you’re staying on top of due dates and assignment requirements by using a calendar, to-do list, or other methods that work for you. Having things planned ahead of time is a great way to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed or scramble to complete them at the last minute.
Keeping your environment clean is also an underrated part of reducing stress. Making your bed, being consistent with laundry, and keeping up with physical hygiene, every little thing makes a difference in the greater scheme of things. If you’re struggling and need help, there’s no shame in it. Reach out to your friends, family members, or professors.
