On Tuesday, September 22, the ETSU men’s soccer team played against Presbyterian College in their home field of Summers-Taylor Stadium. The last two times these teams have played against each other resulted in ties, so both teams were ready to win it all.

The first period ran hot for the Buccaneers, with Elliot Edwards scoring a goal in the first 17 minutes. Joe Gonzalez followed shortly with a goal of his own at 26:50, giving ETSU a good lead. With only 7 minutes until the first period was over, the Buccaneers were not willing to give up the lead so easily. They kept defending off Presbyterian until Jaime Carrillo scored his first goal of the night, with the score being 3-0 before the second period.

The second period started a little rougher for the Buccaneers, with Presbyterian scoring a goal within the first 2 minutes. At 57:14, Carrillo scores his second goal of the night, further pushing ETSU to a 4-1 lead. Less than two minutes later, Carrillo scored another goal for ETSU, becoming the third player in Buccaneers history to get a hat trick in the program.

Presbyterian doesn’t allow the Buccaneers to celebrate for long, as they score another goal just a few minutes later to make the score 5-2. The next 14 minutes go by slowly, with neither team able to push past the other’s defenses. At 76:41, Gavin Dick scored a goal for ETSU, and the final point of the night. With a final score of 6-2, ETSU emerges triumphant over Presbyterian for the first time since 2023.

The ETSU men’s soccer team will continue with another SoCon game on Sunday, Sept. 27, against VMI in Johnson City.
