East Tennessee State University will host its annual ETSU Elevates pitch competition Monday, giving students the opportunity to compete for funding to continue projects designed to address issues affecting the local community.

The pitch competition is one part of the ETSU Elevates program, which began in January and gives students the opportunity to turn issues they care about into community-based projects. Through the program, students develop leadership skills while working with community partners to bring their ideas to life.

Participants receive seed funding at the beginning of the program to help launch their projects. They also complete the Passion to Action series, a four-session workshop designed to help students refine their ideas and establish a foundation for their projects.

As part of the program, participants identify a community issue and collaborate with community partners, including nonprofit organizations, that provide guidance and support throughout the development of their projects.

The ETSU Elevates pitch competition allows participants to present their projects and compete for additional funding to expand their work and continue serving the community.

The event will take place on Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the Martin Center for the Arts and is open to the public.

The competition is part of ETSU’s Founders Week, an annual celebration held each October to recognize the university’s history, founding and mission of serving the community.
