Dear Editor,
I am writing this because I am very concerned for the welfare of the majority of the student body at ETSU.
You (the majority) were successfully duped by the Suits campaign by voting for a candidate who made much less of an effort to address the actual issues that face the student body. Suits and his running mates came up with cute nicknames, made funny faces in the East Tennessean, produced some creative flyers, blew bubbles in your face and made you laugh at their T-shirts.
The voters fell into a brilliant trap by Suits’ and his mates. They somehow knew that the students here are gullible enough to vote for a candidate they likely knew very little about as long as he was funny and charismatic.
I hope the Suits’ campaign will reform the election process.
I propose mandatory open forum debates where the candidates are forced to field questions from the student body.
Also, how about we set limits or completely eradicate the bribery that occurs during the campaign. Anyone who gives out candy or the very creative ramen noodles should be disqualified.
I would like to thank the SGA for this year’s election. For the first time in four years an SGA election considered the concerns of the student body. It was reflective of the real process we call American government.
It has also become a valuable lesson to this campus. Vote for leaders not candy or charisma.
