The California recall election to be held Oct. 7 may be remembered for what the candidates were recognized for before they were involved in politics. Understand?
One candidate’s most famous line is, “Whach you talkin’ bout’ Willis!”
Another candidate is known for the line, “I’ll be bock.”
Gary Coleman did not always understand Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger returned this summer as promised in Terminator 3.
Before this summer of recall, even the politically savvy, late comedian Bob Hope may not have envisioned this kind of election coming.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers describe the effects of the state on the rest of our nation as “Californication,” and it is known to politicians as the home of the “Left Coast.” However, as the political circus rolls on, California will have a new governor or a thrice-elected Gov. Gray Davis if he wins the recall in October.
But in California, the current governor is no Seabiscuit, and Arnold is no Ronald Reagan.
There have been 30 recall attempts, including one when Reagan was governor, and all have failed to make the ballot with the exception of this recall.
Davis has gone far past his constituents’ willingness to forgive, and the following is why.
An LA Timesopinion column shows that Davis has increased state spending by 35 percent while adding 25,000 state employees to the public payroll. During the energy crisis, Davis failed to react quickly enough because he wanted to please the environmentalists.
If anyone thinks that Arnold is the perfect candidate for the ailing 49er state, they are both right and wrong.
Arnold is a neo-conservative. (Sometimes I like to say neo-crazy because of the fact that the neo-cons are really statists dressed up like conservatives.) Schwarzenegger wants to fund more social programs and has no objections to recognizing gay marriage under the law.
Critics say that Arnold could do no worse than Davis, and Davis supporters are calling this a Republican conspiracy.
Opinion columnist George Will believes that Californians should have to live with the consequences of their election of Davis.
The recall election will be good for California voters. They can say that they have added one more page to the encyclopedia.
Plus, 100 years from now, when the rest of the nation finally catches up to the trend-setting Golden State and decide to recall one of their governors, they will have a roadmap to go by.
