Each August, ETSU Pride signs begin popping up around
the Tri-Cities to celebrate the community’s pride in the university.
Various activities have been planned to involve students and
also excite the community about upcoming fall sports at ETSU.
PRIDE Week begins today with Preview, a program that
allows freshmen to meet fellow students and learn more about
the ETSU campus. Several student organizations
are assisting with the Preview move-in which began today at 8
a.m. Refreshments will be served, and information will be available
for new students and parents. The program is led by upperclass
students and has several activities planned through out
the weekend which are geared to help new students become more
comfortable in their surroundings. Several activities are planned
for Monday, Aug. 25. Not only is that the day that classes begin,
but the College of Nursing will also be sponsoring the Welcome
Fair and Appreciation Extravaganza on the lawn of
Lamb Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On that same day, there will be
a Back to School Bash which will feature an all-day outdoor concert
at the Ampitheatre from noon until 10 p.m. This is sponsored
by the Homeward and Pulse Student Ministries of First
Christian Church, Campus Crusade for Christ and ETSU.
From noon to 5 p.m., the bands performing will be
Alathea, The Well band and the ETSU Gospel Ensemble.
At 7 p.m., Kids in the Way will open for a Switchfoot concert
which begins at 8 p.m. Before the music begins, there
will be an organization fair which will feature local churches,
campus ministry groups and a local radio station showcasing the
worship opportunities at ETSU. On Aug. 26, the ETSU
PRIDE block party will kick off on Walnut Street at 4:30 and will
last until 6:30. It is being sponsored by Firehouse Restaurant and State
of Franklin Savings Bank and will feature games,music and free
food. There will be a Welcome to ETSU Picnic, sponsored by the
Panhellinic Association and the Interfraternity Council from 11
a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ampitheatre. Some events
planned include putt putt, a dunking booth and an inflatable
couch that will be used for pictures. On Aug. 27, there will be an
ETSU PRIDE Community Showcase in the Pedestrian Mall
from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It is being sponsored by the
Chamber of Commerce of Johnson City, Jonesborough and
Washington County. There are also several establishments
throughout the Tri-Cities that are offering discounts
throughout the week to students and other patrons sporting
ETSU apparel. Aug. 22 is ETSU PRIDE day at the Appalachian Fair.
Everyone that shows their ETSU pride by wearing ETSU
apparel gets $1.00 off the admission price.
Aug. 25 is ETSU PRIDE night with the Kingsport Mets
when the team plays the Elizabethton Twins at 7 p.m. at
Hunter Wright Stadium. Any visitor that wears ETSU apparel
gets in for free.
