The two major parties are going through some major transitions. Democrats stole the Republicans issues during the Clinton administration, now the Republicans have done practically the same.
New Republicans with a big government agenda are causing a fall-out among core conservatives. This past Sunday, the Washington Times had an article about the dissension. It said that the last time a major split happened within conservative politics was during the Nixon administration.
Nixon recognized Communist China and Goldwater conservatives believed that to be morally wrong because of the oppressive government.
The Democrats under House minority leader Nancy Pelosi have moved more and more to the left. Democrats like neo-conservatives have left their legacy in the hands of bigger government. On moral issues the Democrats have left no room for moderate and Southern Dems. In June Touchstone Magazine took the Democrats to task for the lack of stance on moral issues and said that they could not see how a Christian could support them.
The alternative: Third parties or a political reformation.
The conservatives are looking towards alternatives like the Constitution Party. Look for the rise of the “Constitutional Conservative.” Not a conservative that’s a member of the Constitution Party but a conservative who’s platform will be the Constitution and not a political manifesto.
Also, the Communitarian Party, founded from the works of thinker Robert Nisbet, will play an impact on third party conservative politics.
Right now, the party is being head quartered at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
The Democrats will regroup under such future presidential candidates like Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and former Clinton Energy Secretary, now New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson.
These two men have managed to stay out of the fray and have promising political futures. So far by staying out of the fray, these politicos look neutral in the eye of the distant observer. Although Gov. Richardson did speak out strong for government regulation of energy during the Northeast blackout.
Ralph Nader and the Greens will probably be unable to lead a successful third party for the Democrats.
