This year, ETSU’s honor scholars program is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
“The program’s mission is to provide special educational opportunities for academically talented students,” said Jay Boland, honors scholars program director.
“Within this mission, our goals focus on recruiting exceptional students, nurturing their intellectual growth through challenging curricula, promoting their commitment to life-long learning and service, and instilling in them a desire to advance knowledge in their chosen fields,” he said.
Eighty students are enrolled in the highly competitive program for the 2003-2004 school year.
Each year, 20 incoming freshmen are granted full scholarships, including tuition, fees, a meal plan and book money. On average, 120 students apply each year.
Although the honors scholars program is designed for incoming freshmen, the honors-in-discipline programs also grant a number of existing students scholarships within their departments. These benefits also include an out-of-state tuition waiver.
ETSU honors scholars graduates enter their post-baccalaureate studies and the work force with an edge due to their participation in the honors programs.
Students can learn more about admissions for this program at the program’s web site, www.etsu.edu/honors.
Admission requirements include a 29 ACT or 1280 SAT and a high school GPA of 3.5. The Honors-in-Discipline program requirements are based on the student’s’ high school ACT of 25 or above or their previous college semester grades.
