On Thursday, Sept. 11, Lee Fish and her husband Scott have planned an event paying tribute to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
The event called “Remember … Salute … And The Ultimate Sacrifice” will be held at Tri-Cities Airport at 7 p.m.
“I did this as a tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11 and for those paying the ultimate sacrifices overseas right now,” said Fish.
The featured keynote speaker will be retired four-star Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan. He is the president and chief operating officer for the Association of the U.S. Army.
Gen. Sullivan is also a former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Chief James B. Gargan who served the most volunteer hours at Ground Zero will also be speaking. Chief Gargan will be bringing a large piece of one of the planes that hit the World Trade Towers. He is an author and expert with confined space, Collapse and Rescue.
“This is a four-foot piece of the plane that hit one of the towers. It’s the largest surviving piece of any plane of 9/11.”
The events will be held on the tarmac at Tri-Cities airport. Fish recommends that people be seated by 6:30 p.m. for security reasons.
“This is the first 9/11 event to be held on a tarmac of an airport. It will be spectacular,” said Fish.
There will be a fly over of two air force fighter planes. Seating will be limited to a capacity of 5,000 people.
“The first 1,500 people will have seats, and all after that should bring chairs or be prepared to stand” said Fish.
The event will be put on by Darrell Pendergrass with Pendergrass Productions and the Viking Hall Civic Center.
Another big event at the tribute will be the Grandfather Mountain Highlanders Pipe Band. They are the hosting the Grandfather Mountain High-land Games.
Lee said that it was a big deal to get the band because they are in such high demand.
Media will be covering this event extensively with the help of former NBC anchor John Palmer.
The event is open to the public and should last about an hour. For more information on the events, visit the tribute web site at www. Remembersept11th.com.
