Dear Editor,
Last week I read with interest your Viewpoint column introducing your series on homosexual marriage.
I looked forward to following your series, particularly since you seemed to have no personal agenda and you promised thorough and accurate research.
Imagine my disappointment when, in your first article of the series, you perpetuated a misconception common among this primarily Protestant area of the country by stating “the two main organized religions that are protesting the movement; Catholicism and Christianity.”
This implies that Catholicism is not Christianity.
Had you done your research, you would know that Catholicism is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and is the heart of Christianity.
I assume what you meant to distinguish was the difference in Catholicism and Protestantism, or perhaps, Catholicism and Fundamentalism.
I feel an urgency to correct this error because Catholics suffer persecution and prejudice due to this misunderstanding.
