ETSU softball suffered their fourth straight loss of the season, against the Radford Highlanders Tuesday at Metro-Kiwanis Park in Johnson City.
The doubleheader did not go in favor of the Lady Bucs.
After the two losses, ETSU falls to (21-20), while Radford improves to (22-23).
“This was our fourth straight loss. I told the girls to control the controllables, come to the field ready to play,” said Coach Amy Fuller. “They [Radford] swung the bat really well.”
In the first game, the Highlanders scored their first run in the top of the second inning when Colleen Casey was batted in on a Danielle Tompkins’ single.
In the top of the fourth inning pitcher, Belinda Barrera relieved Courtney Jenkins.
The Highlanders exploded in the fourth when, with bases loaded, Danielle Tompkins was walked, making the score 2-0. Lindsay Woody hit a single, scoring Colleen Casey.
Sara Beth Clayton hit a triple bringing in Tompkins, Lara Wohlgemuth and Woody. Ashley Smith hit a pop fly to end the top of the inning.
The Lady Bucs were not able to get any runs in the first game against the Highlanders.
Radford won the game 6-0. Jennifer Bosley earned the win for the Highlanders, while Jenkins (2-6) got the loss for ETSU.
Bosley was able to go all seven innings and allowed only six hits.
“We have been hitting a lot of pop flies and we need to start hitting more line drives” Fuller said.
The second game began with Barrera pitching, but was later relieved in the top of the fourth inning by Tiffany McVay.
The score remained 0-0 until the top of the third inning when, with bases loaded and one out, Smith walked, scoring Wohlgemuth.
Two more runs were scored when Casey hit a double and scored Woody and Clayton. Clayton was tagged out at home base, but called safe, due to interference from the third baseman, by the umpire.
The score remained 3-0 for the rest of the game. The Lady Bucs were unable to get any runs in the second game. Breanna Felix recorded the win for Radford by pitching all seven innings.
Barrera (8-9) added the loss to her record. “Belinda did a nice job” Fuller said. “McVay hit her spots the best.”
The ETSU Lady Bucs will be back in action Friday, April 9, when they face UNC Greensboro in North Carolina.
