ETSU had the fifth best score for the third round, but unfortunately it was too late to catch up with the red-hot Vols.
Finishing up the final day at 4-over par, was by far their best finish.
Jeremy Hobson led ETSU with a 2-under par finish Sunday.
But Sunday was all Vols. First the Vols’ freshman Philip Pettitt nailed a near 18-foot putt on the 18th hole to capture the crown for the individual category at 8-under par for the tournament and 5-under on Sunday.
But that was the last good news for Tennessee.
Texas Christian University then went on a run going from 7-under to take a one-stroke lead at the 11th midway through the tournament.
Unfortunately for TCU, Drew Laning bogeyed each of the final three holes and Colby Beckstrom’s double bogey on the 17th hole allowed for a Tennessee win in both the teams and individuals category.
TCU has recently become the favorite to win at the Ridges. Texas Christian holds every major record at the tournament, including lowest team single round and lowest team tournament score.
TCU has won the tournament a record two times and now come in second for the second time in a row.
Sunday ended grimly for everyone else ended.
Round two leader No. 18 Oklahoma finished the day 10-over par ending the tournament in 4th at 6-over par.
In leading Tennessee to victory, Pettitt made the putts that everyone else couldn’t. “I knew it would be quick,” he said. “The greens were rolling great all week.
“My putter was really working great.”
Pettitt is trying hard this year for the annual Phil Mickelson Award and is coming of a good summer only falling short in one tournament. “One of my goals is to give a shot at Freshman of the Year,” he said.
