Dan Rather has found himself in a rather (pun intended) precarious predicament.
The more he opens his mouth about the recent forged documents pertaining to the president’s National Guard service, the less he seems to say. Like Sen. John Kerry, Rather continues to resurrect the past with the same confounding results.
Ironically, this is not the first time that Rather has tried to pull this type of deception.
What is Rather up to? Nothing more than trying to get Kerry elected president by using his powers at CBS News.
CBS, along with ABC and NBC, have become the axis of evil when it comes to reporting the news. The “big three” have an agenda, and the American viewing pubic is being duped into believing their insidious slant of the news. Not only does the average American have to worry about Iraq, Iran and Korea, but can now add CBS, ABC and NBC to their ulcer list.
How long has this been going on? Well, ever since Walter Cronkite found out that he could sway public opinion by using his anchor chair and clout at CBS News as a launching pad for every liberal cause that came his way.
And you don’t have to believe me, just read Who Killed CBS by Peter J. Boyer and you’ll wonder why anyone in America watches CBS News.
Many people have fond memories of Cronkite, who in his prime, reported to a then-shocked nation, on the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
But, when the big three quickly discovered that there was money to be made in television news, the trend of slanting began and those memories faded.
Journalists are to report the news and the facts – period. They are not to fabricate stories for their own personal gain when reporting the news directly to the public.
If a journalist has an opinion, then he or she has the obligation of making the public fully aware that what is about to be said or printed is an editorial opinion and nothing more.
There is no money to be made reporting the news. Money comes through advertising and must be separate from the news.
Somewhere along the way to stardom, Rather forgot the basic rules of reporting and now HE IS THE NEWS.
This is the man who in the 2000 election told America that “CBS was declaring Al Gore a winner in Florida, and we could take it to the bank.”
I wonder how many losses the FDIC covered the next day?
This is the man who, in 2001, said to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly why he believed that President Clinton was an “honest man.” Rather said, “But I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things.”
It makes me wonder where Clinton came up with the line, “It depends upon what the definition of the word is.”
If you need more proof where CBS is concerned and their concerted effort to whitewash the news, then I suggest you read Bernard Goldberg’s book, Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News.
But if you don’t need any more proof, then just continue to watch the big three’s nightly news broadcasts and you’ll fit right in with all the other viewers of those ridiculous Survivor-type shows.
Dan Rather is an excellent journalist who has made a terrible mistake.
Even though a lot of red flags have been raised in the past when it comes to his shenanigans, Rather has had a brilliant and distinguished career and should not let it end in this manner.
Do I think CBS will fire him? Let’s hope not.
Even though I haven’t watched the CBS Evening News in over 15 years, firing him is not the answer.
So, will he be like the phoenix and resurrect himself from the ashes? He could do just that if he does one small thing – apologize to his viewers and America. America is a forgiving nation, and Rather knows this.
History has a lot to say about the great ones who have failed to apologize and then regretted it years later.
Of course all this remains to be seen, especially when Rather thinks that even though the documents could be forged, the facts in the documents could be true.
Say what?
It’s SLANTED, even to the very end. Wake up Dan, we’re not all idiots.
Gone are the days of Edward R. Murrow, Howard K. Smith, Frank Reynolds and those journalists who distinguished themselves in an impeccable manner with the highest regard for the news and facts, and who viewed their trade as a religion.
President Bush was duped by the CIA into believing that Iraq still had weapons of mass destruction and film maker Michael Moore called him “a liar.” Rather was duped by some Texan with a grudge.
Will Moore call Rather a liar also? We can only hope so.
And that’s the news, both good and bad. I’m Larry French.
