The teachings of mindfulness in various religions and how they pertain to living in the 21st century are the focus of ETSU’s fourth annual Mindfulness and Health: Learning from the Sages conference.
This conference will take place Saturday, Sept. 25, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Library on the campus of the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
It will concentrate on “disease and how it affects us, ways of understanding our own impermanence, and the spiritual aspects of coping,” said Dr. Guha Krishnaswamy, conference coordinator and professor and chief of the Division of Allergy in the Quillen College of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine.
Talks to be presented by ETSU faculty and other professionals include “Zen Ox-herding for Health and Well-being,” “Aging, Disease and Coping,” “The Zen of Mindful Living,” “Understanding Annica (Impermanence),” “Health and Healing in the Christian Tradition” and “The Power of Now: Teachings of Eckhart Tolle and Nisargadatta.”
Additional activities supplementing this conference include a light lunch and a question-and-answer session with the panel, as well as a 12:45 p.m. meditation workshop. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.
The conference is free, and coffee and snacks will be provided.
Attendance is limited, and pre-reservations are required (when registering, please note if you plan to attend the luncheon and meditation workshop).
The Carnegie Library is located adjacent to the VA Memorial Theatre, and parking is available in the lot across from Memorial Theatre.
