This is one topic that’s too important to feed you party line rhetoric, so don’t expect any Democrat bashing until next week.
I have a number of conservative or if you wish, Republican-voting, friends who, like me, view the Patriot Act with a wary eye.
Instances of wrongful accusations occur often enough. For example, in the case of John Q. Citizen v. False Arrest via the Patriot Act, there is no recourse or due process to add to an already bad situation.
An arrest under the Patriot Act will give you an extended stay in beautiful Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where you won’t have to leave after seven days and six nights like you’re on vacation to Hawaii.
What’s more, there’s no pesky itinerary to disturb you from simply soaking in the view of that beautifully drab compound day in and day out.
U.S. Marines will ensure your stay is free from pesky visitors such as relatives or defense attorneys. And, to top it all off you don’t have to worry about little details like showing up for court because you will never be bothered by any type of legal action or trial.
Look, I couldn’t care less if a child porn peddler or narcotics dealer gets nabbed instead of the terrorist that the act is supposed to target. However, I do care greatly about the civil rights of the truly innocent.
These may be serious times, but no one can justify civil rights losses as an answer.
Let’s be very careful.
