Robert Hastings isn’t so different. He resides in Surfside Beach, S.C. and probably lives a home life that bears some resemblance to yours. His day is probably filled with moments of joy and moments of despair, just like everybody else’s.
He’s the kind of person you’d want as your friend – intelligent, ever cordial and thoughtful. When you talk to him, you never get the feeling that he’s talking “at” you. Instead, you can hear gallons of interest in every word he speaks.
Only when he leaves his home, on his way to whatever project he wants to accomplish that day, would you realize the difference between Robert Hastings and Normal Joe. You’d discover why Hastings is special – you’d discover why he is significant.
Because he knows the truth. Years of research and deduction have led him to it.
Hastings believes that life exists outside of earth. Furthermore, he believes that many UFO sightings are not hoaxes or mistakes, but actual extraterrestrials visiting our world.
He doesn’t believe this because it’s popular, and he doesn’t believe this because aliens have tried to contact him in some way. Hastings believes it because his research has led him to undisputable evidence.
In 1967, Hastings stood in an air traffic control room in the Malmstrom Air Force Base, outside of Great Falls, Mont. There he saw five UFOs tracked on radar for several minutes. When jets tried to intercept these objects, the UFOs ascended at a speed beyond the capabilities of a man-made craft. After that, Hastings devoted his life to discovering the truth.
Since the passing of the Freedom of Information Act, which gives citizens the right to petition for the declassifying of government documents and memos, Hastings has seen hundreds of documents where an incident similar to his own has occurred with no explanation. In many of these cases, the fear of releasing such information to the general population is prevalent.
“There are CIA documents going back to 1952 where officials express concern over ‘public panic’ if information was candidly shared,” Hastings said.
Hastings has interviewed more than 50 retired military personnel, ranging from airmen to colonels. Most are not anonymous sources; some have even taken out sworn affidavits. Through this research outlet, Hastings has uncovered a disturbing string of UFO sightings near bases that house nuclear weapons programs, such as the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Also, Hastings has heard numerous accounts of UFO sightings near nuclear missile silos. In many of these instances, the missile systems have gone inexplicably off-line.
Many of the military personnel Hastings has spoken to believe that the extraterrestrials are “wagging a finger at us,” he further speculates.
“[It’s as if] someone is trying to tell us that having these weapons in place is putting us in danger of ending human existence,” he said.
On Oct. 8 at 7 p.m., Hastings will be in the D.P. Culp Center Ballroom to deliver his lecture “UFOs: The Hidden History.” This 90-minute presentation is free of charge and showcases previously classified documents and the information Hastings has uncovered in his interviews.
Hastings, who has lectured on the college circuit since 1981 and has spoken at over 500 colleges and universities, encourages everyone to hear what he has to say, believers and unbelievers alike.
“Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the existence of UFOs, pro or con, they need to be informed,” he said.
“If one is going to make an informed decision, they need to have these facts presented to them.”
