Two exhibitions by award-winning artists Andrea Jacobson and Lou Haney are on display at East Tennessee State University’s Slocumb Galleries through Friday, Sept. 16.
Jacobson’s “Summer Work” display features five large-format paintings and eight intaglio prints, and takes its title from the period – this past summer – when the work was completed. The prints are studies based on previous works and four of the paintings are portraits of people in her life.
Jacobson earned her M.F.A. in painting from the University of New Hampshire. While there, she studied at Ascoli Piceno in Italy.
She also holds a B.F.A. in illustration from the Ringling School of Art and Design, Sarasota, Fla., and attended the Florence (Italy) Academy of Art. She was recently chosen to exhibit at “Fresh! An Emerging Artist Exhibition” at AVA in Chattanooga. She has taught at UNH and is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Art and Design in ETSU’s College of Arts and Sciences.
“Shiny Things,” a collection of Haney’s paintings of jewelry, reflect her interest in color, texture, light and pattern. They are directly influenced by advertising and pop culture.
Haney, a Decatur, Ala., native, holds a B.A. in art from Rhodes College, Memphis, and attended Lincoln College at Oxford University as part of a European Studies Program co-sponsored by the University of the South. She also holds an M.F.A. in painting from Claremont (Calif.) Graduate University. She has taught at St. Patrick’s Parish School in Cooma, Australia, and Calhoun Community College in Decatur, and she has directed the Young Artists Program at Watkins College of Art and Design, Nashville. She is currently chair of the Visual Arts Department at Tusculum College, Greeneville.
These exhibits are free and open to the public. Regular hours for Slocumb Galleries, located in Ball Hall, are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
