Students at ETSU will hold an all-day event, “Jammin’ for the Gulf Coast,” to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The public is invited to attend a day of games, food and music.
A carnival with a Mardi Gras theme will begin at 11 a.m. on the Intramural Field (located adjacent to the Center for Physical Activity), with an evening of music continuing until 7 p.m.
Student organizations will host booths offering carnival games or items for sale with Mardi Gras/jazz and blues themes. A minimum donation of $3 will be collected at the gate, with portions of the proceeds slated for the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and Good Samaritan Ministries.
The musical lineup includes Jonathan Snellings at 3 p.m., the everybodyfields at 4 p.m., Rob Russell and the Sore Losers performing at 5 p.m. and EVO taking over at 6 p.m.
TM Truck and Trailer Sales has donated the use of a 53-foot truck and trailer, plus fuel, to deliver goods collected at the benefit to Biloxi, Miss. The truck will be parked at the benefit site all next week.
Many student organizations are participating, among them the Student Social Workers Association, Student Government Association, Volunteer ETSU, Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Buctainment, the ETSU Residence Hall Association, the Physical Education Club and Carter-Stone Hall Council. Local businesses have donated services and products, including East Tennessee Rent-Alls, ARAMARK and Audio Visual Integration. WXIS “Jammin 92.3” has donated public service announcements.
