Dear Editor,
I am not necessarily a fan of rap music, and I did not plan on attending the Ludacris concert, but for the city to step in and cancel this thing is absolutely ludicrous (pun intended).
Ludacris was not one of the artists I voted for, but he is a big name (like the SGA promised) and I’m sure that he got more votes than the indie rock bands I voted for.
What angers me so much are the excuses used by city officials. You can’t tell me that Ludacris poses more of a threat of violence than Kid Rock, who was recently at Freedom Hall.
Kid Rock’s lyrics are also filled with as much if not more violence, support of illegal drug use, profanity and misogyny than Ludacris’s.
This decision was an act of desperation by a group of out of touch and most importantly racist, old, rich, white people.
I am also appalled that President Stanton helped to destroy the hard work put forth by his very own students. I have supported all of his controversial decisions since I’ve been at ETSU, even the cancellation of our football team.
He could have stood up for the students and been an advocate for our rights to have our money spent the way it was intended, but instead he allowed – as well as supported – some politician who got involved trying to control the lives of students and ETSU as a whole in a manner with which he had no right or unselfish reason to do so in the first place.
