I am sure that most of you believe that I am pretty happy about the Ludacris “concert” being canceled. By assuming this you would only be half right.
I am happy that the Ludacris “concert” got canceled; however, I am not all that happy with the way it got canceled.
I, in no way support the censoring of any “art form” no matter how completely untalented and redundant I believe it is.
I just wanted the student body to notice how unorganized and ridiculously oblivious many members of the Student Government Association are.
The letters to the editor may lead you to believe that I said people just did not check their e-mail because they were busy, but I also noted that they did not check their z-mail because they had no reason to do so considering classes were over and MANY students did not even receive the e-mail in the first place.
I was upset at the fact that SGA did a pitiful job of getting the word out about the vote.
“Most schools do not even consider student input in their events,” SGA President JR Husmillo said in his letter to the East Tennessean.
Yes, I do realize that most universities do not consider input from students, but ours does and all the students should get a chance to vote – not less than 400 of them.
“The average student does not know what goes into production of a concert. You cannot just choose an artist and decide for that artist to come. There’s so much more.” Husmillo said.
Well apparently the SGA does not know what goes into the production of a concert either.
If the SGA did they would know that it is key to have your venue booked and have that venue contractually obligated to let you have the event happen.
However SGA did not do that and they are partially to blame for the cancellation of the concert.
SGA also needs to take note that in order to get big name performers they need to start planning the concert six months to a year ahead of time.
I just hope that this whole ordeal leads the SGA to make better decisions next time.
I hope that the next concert that the SGA does a better job and that it is not marred by the problems this one was, and as long as students are given a fair vote I will not complain about the performer no matter what my personal opinion of them is.
