Dear Editor,
As far as voting is concerned relating to the increase in the student activity fund and for musical groups to come to ETSU’s Homecoming celebration, I must say that I NEVER received any e-mails from the SGA, nor has anyone else that I have talked to (which by the way, has been more than 150 students).
First of all, the SGA should be held responsible. Why? Because it was estimated that only 400 students out of 12,000 who are registered voted. That leaves an alarming statistic of less than 5 percent who received e-mails.
SGA President JR Husmillo and his vice president cohort made a mockery of ETSU on NBC affiliate, WAVY-10, by making it sound like the students’ $85,000 was the SGA’s. I’m sorry to say this, but you are dead wrong, that money was ours.
The majority of the students don’t want to see Ludacris. So why not refund us our $16? For the minority of students that want to see Ludacris, you can take your $16 and apply it to a concert ticket or buy the CD.
Another issue is prejudice. One person claimed that SGA and ETSU have the right to book Ludacris because it is “an equal opportunity issue.”I think that person needs to look up what equal opportunity really is.ETSU is not employing Ludacris, so it’s not an equal opportunity issue.
The reason I disagree with Ludacris coming to ETSU is because of his morals, ethics, foul language and the way he treats women and children.Yet, ETSU finds the time to allow a women’s day on campus. If ETSU allows this concert to occur, then they would be hypocritical in what they stand for.Remember this is an issue about ethics, morals and mental reservations.
I would like to commend and personally thank President Stanton for standing up and saying a performer like Ludacris is totally against what ETSU stands for.
If ETSU really wants a big-name celebrity to come to town, why don’t we take another vote? Instead of e-mail, let’s rely on the old method of paper ballots and post information throughout the campus. That would be more fair, and then those that didn’t get a chance to vote would have nothing to say.
On a final note, with ETSU being a major university, you would think we could try to book a big name personality who could at least spell ‘ludicrous’ correctly.
