Ludacris has been on the schedule, off and back on for Homecoming. One performance that hasn’t wavered is the ETSU Music Department’s Wind Ensemble Concert Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Martha Street Culp Center Auditorium.
The ensemble has been practicing since the beginning of the semester for this program. “These students work hard all year round, but especially for their concerts,” said Music Events Director Patti Marlow.
A wind ensemble includes wind and percussion instruments, but may also include a stringed bass and performers just as varied. “The ensemble has students of all different ages and on all different levels,” Marlow said. “The ensemble ranges from freshmen all the way up to graduate students.”
The “Alumni Homecoming Concert” will include pieces drawn from Vincent Persechetti’s Divertimento for Band, as well as other familiar pieces.
“It will consist of a wonderful march Cyrus the Great by Karl King; Prelude, Sicilano and Rondo by Malcolm Arnold; and music from the movies/stage plays The Sound of Music, Titanic and My Fair Lady,” said ensemble conductor and ETSU faculty member Roxanne Haskill. “Other music will be a nice Latin piece entitled Fandago. The concert will end with the Alma Mater and the Fight Song.”
This music was chosen to entertain the audience with the classics song they love.
“It’s a light program intended to entertain and honor our alumni,” said Haskill, who spent 14 years conducting the U.S. Marine Corps and 22 years as a professional horn player.
Although this concert is an alumni concert, attendance is not limited to alumni.
This show, like most shows put on by the music department, is free and open to the public. Students and community members are welcome.
