Fragocity 3.0 had yet another successful night of gaming, food and fun last Friday in the Niswonger Digital Media Center.
Fragocity, Johnson City’s largest all night LAN party, hosted by the EDGE club, (ETSU Student ACM SIGGRAPH chapter) was started in the fall semester of 2003 by digital media students and EDGE club members Lee Trout (chair) and Josh Rose (former chair). Fragocity’s growing success allows what started out to just be a small group of students getting together on a Friday night to play games, to continue on each year and open its doors to record numbers of people.
Each year Fragocity welcomes not only students, but a growing number of alumni and any members of the community that wish to join in. “Over 60 people attended .” said Trout. “This is a record attendance and every event sets yet a new record. Based on this record growth, everyone involved is excited to see how far we can take the event in the future.”
This all night LAN party began at 6 p.m. and lasted until 7 a.m. Gamers from all over Johnson City brought their PCs, consoles and games. The first 30 people through the door received commemorative Fragocity dog tags.
Many of those in attendance participated in tournaments including Halo 2, Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament 2004.
Winners of the tournaments went on to compete in a Dance Dance Revolution tournament to claim the title of Fragocity’s first ever “Fragocity Last Man Standing.”
Fragocity is in its third year running, and has gained corporate sponsorship from companies including BAWLS Guarana, Alienware, NVIDIA, and eDimensional. BAWLS Guarana has sponsored Fragocity since it began in 2003 and continues to be a main supporter and contributor of the event.
Cost of this event was $10 at the door. Pizza and drinks were sold throughout the night. Proceeds from this event went to benefit the EDGE club.
