On April 28, the ETSU softball team played against North Carolina’s Gardner-Webb. They faced off in a two-game series at Betty Basler Field, winning one and losing the other. However, both games were close in score, with a 4-3 win at 3 pm and a 0-1 loss at 5:30. With their two wins and one loss against Mercer on May 2-3, they are going into the SoCon Championship with a 21-28 overall record this season.

During game one, Riley Croley was the only person to make it across home plate all four times. This was the first time this season that a single person had scored all of the team’s points. She also managed to go 3-3 for hits, including one walk, with Maddison Stowell posting a career best with 3-4. On the defensive side, Abigail Taylor was responsible for 7 of the 15 flyouts. Overall, the team managed a total of 30 at-bats, 12 hits, four runs, three RBI, drew three walks, and three assists through 21 putouts.

For game two, Payton Moore and Leilani Coleman were the only ones able to get a hit, both getting singles. Croley did manage to secure five assists, with Hailey Porter and Tiare Rieger collecting four each. There was some success by pitchers Marissa Barnes and Taylor Suchy as they combined a total of four strikeouts. Overall, for this game, the team had 21 at-bats, two hits, drew two walks, and totaled 15 assists with 21 putouts, giving the team a season high in assists.

The Bucs will finish their season as they once again take on Mercer, the No. 7 Seed in the SoCon Championship. They will play in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at 1 pm on May 6-9.
