Dear Editor,
I am presently an undergraduate student here at ETSU and over the years I have grown to love this university. I am 42 years old and I have attended
ETSU on and off since 1985. I graduate at the end of this semester (spring 2007) and I was sincerely intending on continuing my education in the graduate program at the university until the idea of increased student athletic fees became an issue.
I remember football at ETSU. It was a worthless program then and I have every reason to believe that it will be a worthless program if it is reinstated in the university.
I remember ETSU back when football was here and I see what the university is now without football. I find that the university is far better off without football. I remember that nearly all departments at the university suffered as a result of the administration diverting funds from
the various different colleges to the football program. Colleges such as the
art and music departments suffered the most. Both programs are much stronger
now than they have ever been in the history of ETSU. Bringing back football
can only be detrimental to these programs.
One thing  I  can assure  you  is this: If the increased athletic fee is
approved, I for one will not attend ETSU’s graduate program. I refuse to pay
an increase in fees as a result of football returning to the university.
