The fifth annual Summit awards were held Tuesday night, April 10, at the Centre at Millennium Park. The Summit is a celebration of distinguished student leaders and campus programs.
Phillip Carney, Jessica Broyles, Amber Hoskins and Andrew Rose were some of the first to receive honors at the awards ceremony receiving the Unsung Hero Award, which is given to students not holding major leadership positions, are dedicated to serving the university and go above and beyond the call of duty.
The Most Improved Student Organization award went to the East Tennessean for their significant improvement in overall functionality, visibility and level of activity on campus.
Amongst the awards given to the Student Government Association, Joshua Shearin won the Carrier Student Government Leadership Award, Carshonda Harris was awarded the Dorman G. Stout Excellence in Service Award, Phillip Ross received the Associate Justice of the Year Award, Jamie Jackson was named Senator of the Year and the title of Cabinet Member of the Year went to Rebecca Edger.
The Greek awards given out this year included the Outstanding New Member Class, which was awarded to Sigma Chi, Outstanding Greek New Member went to Rachael Craven of Alpha Delta Pi, Outstanding Greek President went to Lyndsey Carmichael from Alpha Delta Pi and Outstanding Greek Member awards were given to Caroline Ross, Hayley Keller, and Adam Hall.
The Net Above and Beyond Award, which is set aside for individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty in supporting ETSU students, was awarded to math professor Jamie McGill.
The Citicorp Leadership Scholarship, which is awarded to an enrolled student who has demonstrated campus and community leadership experience and commitment to future involvement and leadership on campus, was given to Brittany Holbert.
Kara Kahley and T.J. Furchess received the Love Community Service Award.
The Jan Phillips Mentor Award, given to an outstanding mentoring ETSU faculty or staff member that serves as a mentor to their students, was bestowed upon East Tennessean adviser Martha Milner.
Best Student Presented Program went to Up ’til Dawn, sponsored by the St. Jude Up ’til Dawn Executive Board. Best Service Program was given to Relay for Life, Best Educational Program was awarded to the Kappa Omicron Nu Ethics Seminar sponsored by Kappa Omicron Nu and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Best social program went to Cheap Date Movies sponsored by Buctainment. Best Co-Sponsored Program and Best Multicultural Program, along with the Outstanding Program of the Year awards went to “An Evening with Maya Angelou” sponsored by ETSU Diversity Committee, SGA BUC Fund, Department of English, Women’s Resource Center, Black Affairs Association, Women’s Studies, Office of Equity and Diversity, and the Residence Hall Association.
The Housing and Residence Life Distinguished Service Award went to Natassia Taylor and the Making the Difference Award was given to Lyndall Huffman, Elizabeth Wilks, Brian Josph, Rebecca White and Tamekia Bell.
Hannah Abel, Zarah Cochran, Kara Kahley and Allison Lowe were inducted into the Student Leader Hall of Fame in recognition of their outstanding leadership capabilities and accomplishments at ETSU and the community.
Hannah Abel, Carshonda Harris, Kara Kahley, Allison Lowe, Shana Hartman, Neal Mehta, Adria Presnell, Ben Rhoda and Amanda Ann Ruff were named to Who’s Who.
The Summit was sponsored by Student Affairs, Greek Life’s Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and Pan-Hellenic Council, the SORC and Volunteer ETSU.
