Dear Editor,
On Monday, March 5, 1770, a small crowd taunted British soldiers in Boston, Mass. The uneasy British soldiers opened fire on the crowd killing three and wounding six in one of the first shootings in American history.
The Boston Massacre, as it quickly became known as, was over in minutes, but its repercussions were serious and long-lasting.
This Monday, April 16, 2007, America sadly experienced another shooting. The outcome of this tragedy is much more horrific compared to The Boston Massacre with 32 dead and 17 wounded.
Shocking and devastating to colleges everywhere, something good can come from this catastrophe. With any luck, this tragedy can serve as a wake-up call to colleges and schools everywhere to think about the safety and mental health of their students.
My hope is that we don’t quickly forget about Virginia Tech and place it in the back of our minds with many other news stories.
This tragedy deserves a place in the history books like the Boston Massacre so we may never forget.
