The volleyball team won their home opener against Tusculum College Tuesday night 3-1 with the scores of 30-28, 30-27, 24-30 and 30-21. This sets a record for consecutive games won at home with nine.
This breaks the record set in 2005. Brooks Gym has been the good luck charm for the ladies as they have been tough to beat there.
The games were close all the way to the end. Tusculum put up a good fight with Vivian Lacy leading the way with 20 kills.
Desiree Dyck led ETSU with 18 kills and tied her season best. Laura Waddell put down 12 kills of her own.
Kaena Apana led the team with 20 digs. Callie Kiselich put in 11 digs.
The ladies went in with tough defense and great saves in each of the four games.
The third game was a little hectic for them. “We just dropped our momentum. We know we can play better than that,” said Kiselich.
The Lady Bucs were down by 10 points and dug down to come back and take the lead briefly.
“I have to say congratulations to Tusculum, they served well and defended well. Our ball control was sporadic,” said coach Lindsey Devine.
Dyck said that she was nervous about starting. “It felt good though, everyone around helped out so, I felt fine.”
The ladies have a long road trip up ahead with two three game tournaments in Elon, N.C., and Morgantown, W. Va.
They are not worried though. “We just need to play our game and win,” said Kiselich. “I think we will do fine, we just need to work hard and get the job done.”
“The reason for the long trip is to work in the new faces and come back home stronger,” said Devine.
She also mentioned that winning is important. “It really doesn’t matter if we are at home or away, we just need to get the win.
